After a week off for the NLCS, FOX’s comedy lineup returned to nice numbers. Last night’s episodes of King of the Hill and Family Guy even hit season highs. Regardless, the network did not do enough to overtake its competitors. CBS wound up winning the night with the viewers while tying ABC in the demos.

- Extreme Makeover Home Edition (10.8 million, 3.6/9) lost 500,000.
- Sunday Night Football (3.2/8) was down 3 million.

Last night, the CW got some good news and bad news. The bad news? Despite renting out its Sunday time slots to Media Rights Capital, the network saw no improvement in ratings. The good news? It really didn’t do much worse than before. By night’s end, CBS was a winner with the viewers while ABC wound up tied with NBC in the demos.

Despite being down approximately 5% since last year, the retooled Desperate Housewives was easily last night’s best draw. Unfortunately, the show couldn’t fight off the Bears and Eagles alone. NBC - with the help of Sunday Night Football - was once again tops in both categories last night.

- Approximately 15.4 million (6.3/15 in 18-49) saw the Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football.

- The Amazing Race (3.1/8) took 10.3 million along on the first leg of its race.
- The Simpsons (9.3 million, 4.4/12) was down 6% from last year; King of the Hill (7 million, 3.3/8) fell 13%.

Last night, I made a comment about the Emmys hitting a new low. Apparently it was more than a just a joke. Yesterday’s telecast - which was pitted against a football game - received its smallest numbers to date. Meanwhile, NBC was once again on top with both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Approximately 19.2 million watched the Cowboys defeat the Packers on Sunday Night Football (8.1/19 in 18-49).
- The 60th Primetime Emmy Awards (3.8/9) had 12.2 million confused from the start.
- Cold Case* (2.4/6) kicked off CBS’ evening with 10.4 million.
- The Simpsons* (2.3/6) averaged 5.1 million over an hour.
- A Privileged* rerun (1.1 million, 0.4/1) pulled in 900,000 less than before.

Unless you’re willing to count the Big Brother clip show, Sunday Night Football was the only original program after 8pm last night. This lack of competition gave NBC an easy victory in both categories yesterday.

- Big Brother 10 (2.7/7) refreshed 10.3 million.
